The credential
The CPsyN™ credential.
What is a Certified Psychonutritionist™ (CPsyN™)?
A Certified Psychonutritionist™ is a Registered Dietitian who has completed New Approach Health's Level 1 training in psychonutrition through the Psychonutrition House™ framework.
What does a Certified Psychonutritionist™ do in practice?
They apply the course’s framework within nutrition care. That can include asking about stress and body signals during assessment, exploring food rules and body concerns, and using motivational interviewing. The training also covers screening within RDN scope, documentation, and decisions about referral.
Why become a Certified Psychonutritionist™?
The course may fit if you want to study the psychological aspects of eating that come up in nutrition sessions. You’ll examine assessment, body concerns, the working relationship with a client, and motivational interviewing. Complete Level 1 includes clinical forms, weekly live Q&A with Emahlea, and the credential pathway, with alumni pricing on Levels 2 and 3.
Who is eligible to enroll?
Complete Level 1 and the individual Parts are intended for Registered Dietitians (RD/RDN) and dietetic interns or graduate students in accredited dietetics programs. The Foundations Pass ($69) is open to any adult learner. Part II requires Part I, and Part III requires Parts I and II.

New Approach Health awards CPsyN™ Level 1 to RD/RDNs in good standing who complete all eight Level 1 modules and the required Psychonutrition House™ Floor Assessment Protocol (PHFAP) case write-up. Choose Complete Level 1 for this credential pathway. Individual Parts and the Foundations Pass award CPEUs and access to their included materials.
What are the three Levels of the CPsyN™ pathway?

- Level 3 — Mastery & Integration. In development. Details will be published when available.
How long does Level 1 take?

Can I purchase individual Parts instead of the full Level 1?
Yes. Each of the three Parts can be purchased separately and awards its own CPEUs. You can choose the Part you want to study, subject to its prerequisites. Individual Parts do not include the weekly live Q&A, do not award the CPsyN™ credential, and are not part of the alumni pathway to Levels 2 and 3.

What is psychonutrition?
Psychonutrition examines the relationship between nutrition, psychology, and eating behavior. It considers how thoughts, emotions, and experiences affect eating, alongside how nutrition may relate to mental wellbeing. New Approach Health teaches Emahlea Wilcher’s holistic Psychonutrition House™ framework in CPsyN™ Level 1, with a focus on applying it within nutrition care.
How many CPEUs does Level 1 offer?
Complete Level 1 awards 37 CPEUs across its eight modules. Individual Parts award 13.5, 9, and 15 CPEUs respectively. The Foundations Pass awards 6 CEUs, including ethics. Credits are issued under the Commission on Dietetic Registration's professional development framework.
What is the Psychonutrition House™ framework?
It’s Emahlea Wilcher’s holistic framework, taught in CPsyN™ Level 1. The house has a Foundation (Regulate), five Floors (Name, Hold, Build, Work With, Open), and a Roof (Integrate). Each section covers an area of nutrition care. You begin with regulation, examine eating patterns and the dietitian–client relationship, then use the framework to assess and document a complete case.
What clinical tools are included?
Complete Level 1 includes lifetime access to the Psychonutritionist™ Tool Suite: 27+ web-based, fillable, downloadable clinical forms. The suite includes including the Psychonutrition House™ Floor Assessment Protocol (PHFAP), the BNIA Tool, the Clinician Self-Inventory, and the full PACI-HFSC-WIS-MMP-PMCA-MRP clinical sequence, alongside established screening instruments (SCOFF, EAT-26, EDE-QS, PSS-10, MBI-HSS, PHQ-2/GAD-2) used within RDN scope.
Is the course self-paced or live?
The lessons are self-paced and available on enrollment. Complete Level 1 also includes weekly live Q&A with Emahlea Wilcher, MPH, MS, RD, LD, CPsyN, the founder and creator of the framework.
What about CPEUs for ethics?
Module 0 is included in every product, including the Foundations Pass. It covers the framework, CDR scope and flexible boundaries, when and how to refer, and a dedicated lesson on ethical practice and the dual-competence standard.
Clinical stance
Using the approach in practice.
Is this course relevant if I run an online membership or group nutrition program?
CPsyN™ Level 1 offers continuing education in somatic-informed assessment, trauma-informed nutrition care, and the psychology of eating. The curriculum covers interoception, food and body concerns, motivational interviewing, safety, choice, scope, and referral. An RD in private practice, nutrition education, or an online membership or group program can draw on these principles when planning educational topics, discussing food rules, or writing client-support language. Explore the module descriptions to see the material included in each enrollment option.
What is the clinical stance toward clients and patients?
The framework encourages you to ask what affects a client’s eating and how they experience it. That includes considering stress, food rules, cultural context, and weight bias in assessment. The course applies trauma-informed principles such as safety, choice, and collaboration to nutrition sessions and documentation.
Is this within RDN scope of practice?
The curriculum is designed for RDN practice and addresses CDR’s flexible scope language. Part I covers the Green / Yellow / Red Zone protocol, the Contain-Refer-Document protocol, and documentation.
Is the framework trauma-informed?
Yes. Safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and cultural humility are addressed throughout the modules. You’ll examine what those principles mean for assessment, communication, and the dietitian–client relationship.
What eating-related concerns does the curriculum cover?
The curriculum examines eating patterns, food and body concerns, chronic stress and burnout, and the psychological dimensions of eating. Modules cover screening instruments, motivational interviewing, and documentation in nutrition practice.
